Spooky Halloween Explosion Book for Robin's Nest DT Call

I enjoy the gorgeous papers, embellishements, dew drops and more from The Robin's Nest so much that I have decided to re-apply for my third term on the design team.  Yep, that's right my third term!  It seems just like yesterday I discovered The Robin's Nest and The Chattering Robin's blog.  It has grown to be one of my favorite companies and the people are wonderful.  Did you know that there is a monthly sketch challenge on the blog?  If not, be sure to check it out and join in on the fun and prizes!

Now, I would like to share with you the project that I created for The Robin's Nest Design Team Call.  I love books and I love to create them so I used a book making technique with papers and embellishments from The Robin's Nest to create this spooky Halloween Explosion Book.

 Begin by cutting 3 pieces of cardstock to 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" square.

Score each piece of cardstock at 4 1/4"  and then give a half turn and score again at 4 1/4" from top to bottom.  Fold on each score line to get a crisp fold.  Do this for all of the sheets of cardstock.

Position cardstock as shown below so that one corner is positioned at the top of the scoring board and score down the center.  If you don't have a scoring board, you can fold the bottom corner upward to until it meets the top corner.  Do these for the remaining 2 sheets of cardstock.  Note:  Only score or fold 1 corner...do not do for the other corner.

Fold in half at the score line that you just created on all 3 of the pieces of cardstock to get crisp folds.

Place one sheet of cardstock to be the middle page of the explosion book and add tape to the left and right sides.  The center fold should be facing downward (valley fold) on this piece.
Attach one sheet to the left of the center page and one to the right of the center page as shown.  Be sure to notice the folds so that the book closes properly.  The left and right pages have the center folds facing upward (mountain fold).

Fold the left piece of cardstock so that if form a square over the center piece of cardstock.  This is why it is important to make sure all folds are crisp so that they will fold in the correct direction naturally.

The pages will look like this when held on its side if folded correctly.  The left and right pages the folds (points) should fold upward and the middle page the folds (points) should fold downwards.

Now cut 2 pieces of heavy chipboard or card board 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" square.
Using the Glitter Purple Bats Cardstock from The Robin's Nest cut (2) 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" squares.  Center the chipboard square on the paper and adhere together.  Make a cut from the corner of the paper to the corner of the chipboard on all 4 corners.  Add a strong glue to the edge of the chipboard square and fold the paper over it.  Tip:  If you score a line along each edge of the chipboard on the paper it helps to fold it easier.  Repeat this step for the second piece of paper and chipboard.

I added the fancy corners to the covers at this point.  Add glue to the center of the chipboard cover and adhere the first square of the black cardstock pages to it.  It helps to have the book folded closed at this point.  Flip it over and do the same thing for the back cover.

Cut the Halloween from the Halloween Rub On and using the provided craft stick adhere to the top of the front cover.  Glue 2 orange dew drops from the Flame Dew Drops before and after the "O".  Glue a piece of 12" long x 5/8" wide ribbon to the front and back covers, but do not glue it around the edge of the book as it will interfere with the opening of it.

Here you can either cut (10) 4" squares of  2 different patterned papers or (3) 4" squares like I did. 4 of the squares should be left whole.   If you use 10 of them, you will need to cut 6 of them in half from corner to corner and adhere to the book. (These would be the Glitter Orange Crackle squares in my book.)   If you choose 6 of them, cut them in half and adhere as shown in the picture.  Adhere, also, the 4 that you left whole as shown in the pictures.  This would be the Glitter Halloween Eyes paper.

Now add the embellishments to each page.  I used the orange  from the diamond stack at the corners of the black cardstock page and the red dew drops from the flame dew drops bottle to hang the spiders from the Halloween Rub On.   I, also, added the pumpkin rub on from the Halloween Rub On sheet to the corner of the top square and placed some orange dew drops from the flame dew drops in some of the swirls to add a dimensional look on the page.  I finished the page by adding 2 white diamond dew drops from the Fiesta Dew Drops to 2 of the corners of the Glitter Halloween Eyes paper that is attached to the front cover.

Here I added the chipboard pumpkin and gave it a face using the solid black dew drops and the orange diamond drops to the corners of the black page.  I, again, added 2 of the white diamond dew drops to 2 of the corners of the Glitter Halloween Eyes paper that is attached to the back cover.  I used the green diamonds from the Fiesta Dew Drops to complete the last black cardstock triangle as seen in the bottom left of the picture below.

Now your explosion book is complete and all you have to do is add your favorite photos!  How fun is that?  Have some fun now and go create your own book to match any themes, but be sure to go to The Robin's Nest to find all of the gorgeous papers and embellishments you will need!
